We recognize a need for some of our older students to have opportunities to engage with larger projects and learn how to handle frustration and problem solving. To meet this need, we will be offering longer, more in-depth projects with technology.
This week students will take the Raspberry Pi dashboard project to the next step, with the ultimate goal to show when rooms in the Geonetric building are booked and available from a centralized calendar.
Last time students helped connect the Rasbperri Pi to the calendar system. This time they will work on making initial sketches of the web-based system to add and maange the events based on real requests from building staff – translated into screenshot mockups. This is exactly how we recommend building software – give the customer a walk through and observe them “using” it before writing code. This helps the developers understand how the customer wants to use the software. Once we’ve built these, we’ll use them to get rapid feedback from our “customer”, and in a subsequent dojo, we will build the software to match these mockups.
Students do not have to have been present at the last event to participate this time.
We will again have 10 spots available, and limit the opportunity to 3rd graders and older.
If you have a laptop you’d like to bring, we will be using Evolus’ Pencil software, feel free to install it if you’d like ahead of time, or use one of our computers.
